Our Accomplishments
The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) of East Texas provides a myriad of services to individuals 60 years of age and older. Services include Information, Referral and Assistance; benefits counseling; advocacy for nursing home and assistance living facilities through the Ombudsman programs; case management; home-delivered and congregate meals; home modification and transportation. Other services include health care maintenance, evidenced based programs providing extensive training in Chronic Disease Self-Management, Chronic Pain, Diabetes Self-Management, and Matter of Balance to improve health conditions of older adults.

Ombudsman Program
- Advocacy in 71 nursing facilities and 69 assisted living facilities
- 10 Certified Ombudsman
- Successfully conducted and resolved complaints in 362 facilities
- Conducted over 641 assisted living facilities and over nursing facility visits
Benefits Counseling Program
- In FY 23, the Benefits Counselors assisted 631 individuals
- Conducted 56 events throughout the 14-county service area
- Was able to reach 3,879 individuals with information
- Through media outreach, the AAA reached 301,470 people
Case Management and Care Coordination
- Care Coordination: Served 563 clients. Served 313 un-duplicated clients in homemaker and personal care services
- Health Maintenance: Served 2 clients
- Caregiver In-Home Respite: Served 138 clients
- Residential Repair: Able to assist 7clients
- Emergency Response: Served 81 clients
Nutrition Program
- Expended $2,768,710 for congregate and home-delivered meals
- Un-duplicated persons served:

Health and Wellness
Evidence-Based Intervention Program
- Enrolled 105 participants throughout the 14-county service area
- Program Courses in Diabetes Self-Management, Chronic Disease Self-Management, Chronic Pain Self-Management, A Matter of Balance, Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer’s Caregiver Health
- Three Certified Master Trainers and 19 Certified Leader Coaches
- Recruited new partners to host ongoing classes at their locations and recruited new partners to become Leader Coaches
Area Agency on Aging Volunteers
- 20 Ombudsman Volunteers
- 12 Aging Advisory Committee Members
- Five Benefits Counseling Volunteers
- 12 Leader Coaches Evidenced-Based Health Improvement Programs
- 15 Nutrition Site Volunteers
- An additional 500 volunteers for the home-delivered meals program
Annual REACH Conference (2023)
- 13 CEs offered (sessions went to 1.5 hours)
- 18 REACH Planning Committee Members
- Over 57 sponsors and exhibitors showcased at the conference
- Over 375 individuals attended REACH 2023
Senior Transportation
- Supported transportation through GoBus with $175,000
- 8,750 paid one-way trips for seniors
- 810 riders to senior centers and medical appointments
